When Others Can’t, We Can
Industrial Rotary Compressor Repair & Precision Air End Rebuilds
We are Here for You 24/7
Meticulous Engineering for High-Speed Rotational Assets
Unlike standard low-speed machinery, industrial rotary screw compressors and air ends operate under immense thermal loads and tight physical constraints. The clearances between the interlocking helical rotors are measured in micrometers. A microscopic variance in bearing alignment or a minor structural imbalance can cause the rotors to make physical contact, resulting in instantaneous, catastrophic equipment failure.
Because the tolerances are so demanding, repairing these high-speed assets requires specialized technical mastery far beyond the capabilities of a general maintenance shop. Our dedicated rotating equipment division treats compressor repair as a science. Operating out of our specialized facilities, we combine advanced diagnostic testing, controlled clean-room environments, and precision machine tools to restore your equipment. We don’t just replace broken components; we perform exhaustive forensic failure analysis to determine why the unit failed, correcting root-cause issues like lubrication breakdown, thermal expansion warping, or rotor fatigue to ensure your rebuilt machine delivers maximum service life.

Our Comprehensive Compressor Overhaul Capabilities
Our rotating equipment shop is fully equipped to handle complete mechanical restoration on a wide variety of industrial air compressors, vacuum pumps, and high-volume blowers.
Precision Air End Rebuilding
The air end is the expensive heart of your rotary screw compressor. Our meticulous rebuilding process is engineered to meet or exceed original equipment manufacturer (OEM) performance standards.
- Teardown & Inspection: We completely strip the air end, clean all components to bare metal, and utilize non-destructive testing (NDT) to inspect the casting and rotors for microscopic cracks or fatigue.
- Rotor Profile Restorations: If the rotors have suffered scoring or physical wear, we weld and precision-grind the helical profiles back to their exact geometric curves.
- Tolerance Adjustments: We install high-grade, precision-matched bearing arrangements, replace all specialized lip seals, and meticulously reset the critical discharge clearances to restore factory-spec volumetric efficiency.
Precision Dynamic Balancing
High-speed rotational assets operating at several thousand revolutions per minute must be perfectly balanced to eliminate destructive harmonic vibrations.
- Our Process: We utilize advanced, digital dynamic balancing machines to analyze and correct weight distribution imbalances in rotors, impellers, fans, and shafts.
- The Benefit: Proper balancing drastically reduces mechanical stress on your new bearings, lowers operating temperatures, stabilizes energy consumption, and prevents premature shaft fatigue.
Blower, Vacuum Pump & Gearbox Overhauls
Our rotational expertise extends across your entire fluid and air handling infrastructure. We regularly service high-volume positive displacement blowers, liquid ring vacuum pumps, industrial gearboxes, and centrifugal fans, ensuring all coupled plant assets operate in perfect harmony.
Industries We Keep in Motion
Power Generation & Utilities
In-place machining of steam turbine splits, generator shaft journals, and valve seats.
Marine & Heavy Shipping
Reconditioning main propulsion shaft journals, rudder bores, and large diesel engine blocks on-vessel.
Oil, Gas & Petrochemical
On-site flange facing, exchanger resurfacing, and compressor frame repairs during critical plant turnarounds.
Mining & Aggregate Plants
Our mobile field machining division operates 24/7 as an emergency strike force for industrial mechanical infrastructure. Based out of our expansive Sherman, Texas headquarters, our self-contained mobile rigs deploy nationwide, fully equipped with heavy-duty, portable machine tools. Instead of adapting your asset to fit a stationary machine tool, our field technicians construct temporary rigid mounting fixtures directly onto your damaged components. This allows us to execute precise material removal, boring, and face milling right on your facility floor, structural foundations, or remote job sites.
By performing complex mechanical restoration in-place, we achieve exact original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tolerances while completely bypassing the costs, risks, and delays of heavy equipment transport.
On-site structural rebuilding and boring for massive rock crushers, kilns, and heavy earthmoving fleets.
Deploy an Emergency Field Crew to Your Facility
Don’t let shipping logistics stall your production lines. Contact our central dispatch team today to coordinate an immediate mobile crew deployment, request a technical field consultation, or obtain an operational estimate.

When a massive industrial asset fails or wears out of tolerance, the logistics of transport can be paralyzing. Dismantling high-tonnage machinery, rigging it out of a facility, and shipping it to a traditional machine shop incurs exorbitant freight expenses and stretches operational downtime from days into weeks. Washington Iron Works eliminates this structural bottleneck by bringing elite industrial machinists and heavy portable machining equipment directly to your job site.
- Common Applications: Re-boring excavator arms, mining draglines, industrial press frames, gearbox housings, and steering linkages.
- Our Process: We weld the worn internal diameters back to a proud dimension and line-bore them back to original precision clearances
Mobile Line Boring & Bore Repair
Scored, out-of-round, or damaged crankshaft journals can paralyze large stationary power engines, compressors, and marine diesels. Removing a crankshaft from the engine block requires a complete, multi-week structural teardown. Our specialized, portable orbital turning machines mount directly around the shaft journal, machining and polishing the crankpin while it remains inside the engine block.
- The Benefit: Restores perfect concentricity and microscopic surface finishes in a fraction of the time of a traditional overhaul.
In-Place Crankpin & Shaft Machining
Leaking high-pressure pipe connections, distorted vessel faces, and un-level structural equipment foundations cause severe sealing and operational failures. Our portable flange facers and linear mills handle large-diameter resurfacing in-place.
- Common Applications: Machining heat exchanger faces, large pump bases, crane pedestals, and high-pressure mating flanges to guarantee a leak-free, perfectly flat seal.
Portable Flange Facing &
Surface Milling
Precision machining is only as accurate as the layout geometry. We utilize advanced industrial laser alignment and optical inspection tools to map out bores, shafts, and foundations before cutting metal, ensuring absolute geometric accuracy across massive spans.
